Yuima Nakazato will hold a solo exhibition at the contemporary art museum Oulu Museum of Art from May 22 to October 11, 2026, spanning approximately five months. Following “Beyond Couture,” held in Calais, France in 2024, this exhibition, titled “GLACIER,” marks YUIMA NAKAZATO’s second large-scale solo exhibition in Europe.
The exhibition is presented with the support of the City of Oulu, Finlandーselected as a European Capital of Culture 2026ーand EU-Japan Fest. In addition, part of the exhibition is scheduled to travel to the Sapporo International Art Festival 2027, which will open in January 2027 in Sapporo, a city that has strengthened its ties with Oulu through the UNESCO Creative Cities Network.
Historically, fashion has rarely been positioned within the context of contemporary art. In this regard, the exhibition has also attracted attention as one of the rare solo exhibitions by a fashion designer to be presented at a contemporary art museum.
In recent years, Nakazato has expanded his practice beyond fashion design to include photography. Traveling extensively around the world in search of inspiration, he worked together with curator Pasi Räbinä to create an exhibition space that layers the photographs he captured during his travels with the garments that emerged from those experiences.
In addition, Nakazato — who has also demonstrated a strong commitment to nurturing the next generation through initiatives such as founding fashion awardsーwill collaborate with Aalto University during the exhibition period. Recognized as one of the world’s leading institutions for design education and increasingly noted for the rise of its fashion design department, Aalto University will host a lecture by Nakazato for students under the theme “The Future of Fashion.”
ファッションデザイナー中里唯馬のソロ・エキシビションがオウルの現代アート美術館「Oulu Art Museum（オウル美術館）」にて、2026年5月22日から2026年10月11日まで約５ヶ月間開催される。2024年、フランスのカレー市で開催された「Beyond Couture」に続き、本展「GLACIER」は欧州2箇所目となるYUIMA NAKAZATOの大規模な個展である。本展は、2026年の欧州文化首都(※1)に選定されたフィンランド・オウル市と、EU・ジャパンフェスト(※2)の支援により開催される。また、本展の一部は、ユネスコ創造都市ネットワークとしてオウル市と連携を深めている札幌市で2027年1月から開催される札幌国際芸術祭2027へと巡回する予定である。
