Three archival looks have been selected by Andrew Bolton, OBE and Curator in Charge of The Metropolitan Museum of Art’s Costume Institute for permanent preservationーtwo looks from the Autumn/Winter 2024 collection, UNVEIL; one look from the Spring/Summer 2020 collection, Life. These are currently on display in The MET’s Spring 2026 exhibition, “Costume Art”.
The YUIMA NAKAZATO looks are displayed alongside prolific artworks: UNVEIL with Michael Hafftka’s drawing, “Untitled (Portrait of Vilma Tirado)”, and Life with Toyokuni Utagawa I’s woodblock print, “The Courtesan Takigawa of the Ōgiya Brothel, from the series Seven Beautiful Komachi”. This is an ambitious vision realized by Mr. Bolton to transcend the boundaries between the distinct fields of art and fashionーsomething rarely seen in the history of fashion itself.
In addition, among the works, the pieces from Life has been donated by YUIMA NAKAZATO Co., Ltd., as a gesture of respect toward The Metropolitan Museum of Art and in solidarity with Mr. Bolton’s bold vision and challenge.
