[Face to Face]

On July 7th, 2020, YUIMA NAKAZATO presented Face to Face, an alternative project to their Autumn/ Winter 2020-2021 Couture collection at Paris Haute Couture Online Week.

Made-to-order garments usually require physically meeting a client, and an understanding of clients’ needs and sizes through real-life dialogues and measurements. For this project, we delivered final products with all client interactions taken online. In order to create a truly one-of-a-kind garment for each of them, we asked them to provide a white shirt of their own, and asked about stories that were tied to those shirts. We then, brought the white shirt to YUIMA NAKAZATO’s atelier in Tokyo. We used the dialogue as an inspiration to reimagine it, redesign it, and return it to clients as a completely new garment. This is a project where clients and the designer co-create a new garment. In hopes that garments we created together make clients more cheerful, we offered the entire service free of charge as charity.
